I’m not sure this is my ‘best’ shot (whatever that means), but it’s certainly a recent favourite.
I shot this a couple of weeks ago on my photo tour in Bhutan, right in the middle of a festival performance. The energy was wild, the colours were incredible, and everything was moving at once. It’s one of those moments where you just trust your instincts, stay with the rhythm, and hope the camera keeps up.
This was one of those rare moments that I switched out of aperture priority and moved into shutter priority, setting it to 1/90th sec as the dancers span and danced I have many missed shots, but I was confident that if I stuck with it the slow shutter speed would pay off.
I love how the motion and expression came together here – it still feels as alive as it did in the moment.
