This is part of a series of shots taken by the Sumida River during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Can you walk us through your thought process when you were making this image?
I shot this in a park area against the background of a cityscape. The couple were relaxed, and having a picnic. I liked the atmosphere between them, sitting in the park, looking out towards the city, and I wonder what they are talking about. There is a kind of timeless elegance in the way they are sitting that reminds me of an early 20th century shot by Cartier-Bresson. The composition with them at the centre, the others around them, the buildings in the background, were all begging to become a photograph.
