Stunning Interstellar Comet Photo Captures Cosmic Magic [drafts folder]

A comet with a bright core and faint tail moves through space, surrounded by colorful, streaked star trails in red, green, and blue on a dark background. [noirlab-gemini-south-comet-3i-atlas-featured]

Did you see this? The Gemini South Observatory in Chile just snapped one of the
most mind-blowing images of comet 3I/ATLAS, an interstellar visitor streaking through our solar system at over 130,000 miles per hour. While Hubble already gave us a great look a few weeks back, this new shot is on another level—it’s bursting with color and cosmic drama that makes it look straight out of a sci-fi
poster.

It’s rare to catch something from another star system flying past Earth in such
photogenic form, and hobbyist astrophotographers might find some serious inspiration here. The blend of deep space hues and the sharp trails of stars surrounding this comet is a gorgeous result of incredibly precise imaging. Makes
you want to dust off your tripod and look up, doesn’t it?
